You’re making a good choice

Joining your retirement plan at Vanguard is easy. But if you aren’t sure which of the plans you are eligible for, contact the Columbia University benefits office at 212-851-7000 or hr‑retirement@columbia.edu.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Choose your vendor and payroll deduction amount online. Here's how:

    • Go to hr.columbia.edu and select the CU Online Benefits Enrollment System link.
    • Log in with your UNI and password. Call the CUIT HelpDesk at 212‑854‑1919 if you do not know your UNI or password.
    • Choose the amount you want to contribute from your paycheck, as well as the vendor you wish to invest with.
    • You will be prompted to name beneficiaries immediately following the online enrollment process.
To name beneficiaries later, or to update your beneficiary information, log in to your account at vanguard.com/retirementplans.
  2. Schedule a one-on-one consultation. You can meet one-on-one with a Vanguard retirement planning counselor to discuss the financial issues that matter to you and to make sure your investment strategy is on track. View available dates and times at meetvanguard.com.

  3. Review the Vanguard 403(b)(7) Custodial Account Agreement.pdf This document outlines the rules that govern your account. Please keep it for reference.

Once you’ve chosen Vanguard, you should consider signing up for online account access

Why? Registering gives you access to your account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can check your balances, find up-to-date fund information, and access easy-to-understand investment guidance. You can change your investment selections whenever you want. Once you’ve joined the plan and received a confirmation in the mail from Vanguard, sign up for online access.
